The Datsun Magnite Might Debut In 2020
The Japanese automaker, Datsun, has filed a trademark application for their future compact SUV, the Datsun Magnite. While sources indicate that the Datsun Magnite will be a sub-4 metre SUV, further details are still to be announced.
The Datsun Magnite will be the company’s version of the upcoming Renault HBC compact SUV. Datsun will launch their new vehicle after the Renault HBC enters the fray which could be as early as August 2020.
Once launched, both cars will go up against the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and the popular Mahindra XUV300. You can expect to see the Datsun Magnite officially launch a few months after Renault’s HBC.
Datsun Magnite Specifications
The Datsun Magnite will have the same CMF-A+ platform that’s on the Renault Triber compact MPV. In terms of engine specifications, the new Datsun Magnite compact SUV could be a 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. It could be the same global-spec engine that powers the Nissan Micra and the new-generation Renault Clio.
The MPI (multi-point injection) engine produces makes 73 kW with 160 Nm of torque while the DI (direct injection) model delivers 86 kW and an impressive 180 Nm of torque. As far as the transmission options go, the Magnite could offer a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic gearbox.
It’s no surprise that the Magnite will share its engine and underpinnings with the production model of Renault’s HBC SUV considering that the Renault-Nissan alliance produce cars from the same factory and assembly lines.
What’s In Store At The 2020 Auto Expo?
The theme of the 2020 Auto Expo is “Explore the World of Future Mobility”. While this will clearly focus on electric vehicles, it also showcases all the latest automotive trends, technologies, products, components and concepts.
Considering it’s all about future mobility, the 2020 Auto Expo will also have a ’hang-out’ zone. Here, visitors can interact with Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, drones, robotics and other digital, disruptive technologies which are fast becoming part and parcel of the automotive sector.
The Datsun Magnite compact SUV could make its debut at the 2020 Auto Expo either as a concept or near-production. It is expected to be a modular vehicle similar to the Renault Triber. With that, Renault has confirmed that they are leaving diesel in India and Nissan could do the same. They are likely only going to offer the Datsun Magnite in petrol derivatives.
