While the Proteas’ Cricket World Cup has come to an abrupt end, the real highlight of the tournament was former national captain, Shaun Pollock, promoting the new Nissan Navara Stealth.

Had the Proteas performed better, their tournament could have been a fairy tale advertisement for Nissan. However, that was not the case and the world-class bakkie is all that remains now, standing tall among teary-eyed cricket supporters. With all the World Cup woes behind us, we take a look at the range-topping Nissan Navara Stealth 2.3D 4X4 automatic.

Nissan Navara Stealth: The True All-Rounder

There is no denying that South Africa loves double cab bakkies and the tougher they are, the better. While the Nissan Navara Stealth is modeled on the Navara Luxury Edition, it comes with several design updates to create a reimagined version of a truly South African favourite.

Just looking at it should give any petrol head goosebumps as the exterior looks immaculate. The standard silver-and-chrome detailing highlights the sleek, black trimmings. It has a unique roll-bar, side steps and black alloy wheels speaking volumes of the effort Nissan has put into the new Navara.

They’ve added new orange accents which makes the Stealth stand out head and shoulders above the rest. The general perception of the design thus far has been exceptionally positive as the two-tone styling flows into the interior as well.

Nissan Navara Stealth Features And Driver Comforts

The new double cab bakkie has Intelligent Around View Monitor that uses four cameras around the car to give the driver a 360-degree view. It comes with a little LCD screen that appears on the side of the rearview mirror when in reverse.

It’s also fitted with Nissan Intelligent Mobility technologies such as the Intelligent Key System, Intelligent 4×4 System and Hill Start Assist. The Intelligent 4×4 system is certainly smart as it helps drivers to corner smoothly by adjusting power output to the front and rear wheels.

Some of the creature comforts which add to the tremendous driving experience include accented leather gear lever, handbrake and steering wheel. Of course, that also features all the necessary controls at your fingertips. The Stealth also has heated front seats and an advanced drive-assist display in the center of the instrument panel.

Performance And Safety

The question on everyone’s mind is whether or not the performance matches the looks. We are happy to announce that it does as the Nissan Navara Stealth has a 2 298cc twin-turbo diesel engine pushing out 140kW and 450Nm of torque paired with a seven-speed automatic gearbox.

Even when towing nearly three tonnes, the engine still performs exceptionally well. Unlike many modern-day bakkies that sound like a car, the Stealth has a distinctive diesel engine roar which serves as a beautiful reminder that you are, in fact, driving a big and menacing double cab.

In terms of fuel consumption, Nissan claims you can get 7l/100km on a combined cycle while the average is about 11l/100km. Going off-road should be a breeze thanks to the advanced 4×4 system and a five-link coil rear suspension. It should get you over some serious obstacles in low range and the diff lock.

The Nissan Navara Stealth has an impressive list of safety features including ABS, EBD, Traction Control, Vehicle Dynamic Control, and Brake Assist among others. It also comes with front, side, curtain rail and a driver knee airbag.

The double cab segment may be a tough nut to crack if you consider the long history of the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux. However, unlike the disappointing Cricket World Cup, Nissan has come out guns blazing ticking all the right boxes.
