Nissan ARIYA EV Voted The Best Large Electric Car

The Nissan ARIYA has been the bright promise on the edge between desire and reality for a couple of years. Not sold here yet, not sure when it will be, but when it arrives – oh boy!

The ARIYA is Nissan’s first battery electric SUV and it comes with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions, with several performances and range options. The top-range models will zip from 0 to 100km/h in a shade over five seconds, and take you around 500km on a single charge.

At 4.6m long and 1.66m tall, the ARIYA is a large car, and according to the Brits, the best in its class.

The Nissan ARIYA has just been announced as the ‘Best Large Electric Car’ in the Carbuyer Best Car Awards 2023.

Carbuyer is a web publication focused on new cars and aimed at car buyers in general, as opposed to hardcore car enthusiasts. It was started in 2010 and has won several awards since then. Its ‘Best’ list is eagerly awaited by manufacturers and car buyers alike.

According to Carbuyer editor Richard Ingram: “Nissan set the EV benchmark when it launched the LEAF back in 2011, and it does the same in the large electric car segment a decade on.”

“The ARIYA feels futuristic, with a good range, spacious cabin and loads of clever tricks and features. It’s a brilliant all-rounder if you’re looking for a big car and want to make the switch.”

The ARIYA moves Nissan’s expertise in making superb large SUVs – think X-Trail and Qashqai – into the electric domain. This remarkable car has already won several international awards and there are currently plans to drive a specially-adapted ARIYA from the magnetic North Pole to its namesake in Antarctica via North, Central and South America.

Nissan is a pioneer in EV development and has recently invested massively in battery technology and manufacturing. Like other leading manufacturers, Nissan plans to have most, if not all, its vehicles powered by electricity sometime in the ‘30s.

The jewel in the EV crown is a solid-state battery that will be cheaper to make, rivalling the power output costs of internal combustion engines, lighter and quicker to charge.
