The new Nissan CUV – Magnite
A new crossover SUV is set to join the already prestigious line-up in South Africa. The latest edition is the Nissan Magnite that offers comprehensive features, bold looks and impressive all-around performance. This 3,994mm long, five-passenger compact crossover takes on the Hyundai Venue, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Suzuki Vitara Brezza and many other alternatives on the market across the globe.
Nissan Magnite Styling And Features
The much-anticipated B-Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) is the embodiment of the automaker’s relentless crossover spirit of innovation and style. That makes the launch a fitting one for what is a bold and stylish SUV full of character.
Designed and built for every type of journey, the Nissan Magnite comes with the best looking headlamps in its class with lightsabre-style turn indicators. The L-shape LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) and intimidating front grille are unlike any other design within the B-SUV segment.
Square wheel arches, front and rear silver skid plates add even more to the car’s striking appearance. Riding on 16-inch alloy wheels with 205mm of ground clearance, the Nissan Magnite is not only ideal for urban driving but also has mild off-road capabilities. To add spice to a weekend getaway, it has functional roof rails with a 50kg load capacity.
When it comes to the interior, the new Nissan Magnite has the best level of packaging and seating comfort. It has a rear armrest with two cup holders, 60:40 split-folding rear seats, a 10l cubbyhole and boot capacity of 336 litres, enough for everyday shopping, weekend getaways and family excursions.
The Magnite has many features as well, including a 20.3cm touch screen infotainment system, 6-speaker audio system, wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, 360-degree Around View Monitor (AVM) camera, multifunction steering wheel, wireless charging and even a tyre-pressure monitor.
Engine Specifications And Safety Features
The engine might seem small but don’t let it fool you as the 1.0l turbocharged petrol three-cylinder engine produces an impressive 74kW and 160Nm of torque linked to a five-speed manual or an X-Tronic continuously variable transmission (CVT). Considering the relatively low weight of the car, it has more than enough power for all types of driving. In terms of safety, the Nissan Magnite gets the following:
- SRS duel driver and passenger airbags
- Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC)
- Hill-Start Assist (HSA)
- ABS brakes
- Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD)
- Hydraulic Brake Assist (HBA)
- Traction Control System (TCS)
- Speed-sensing door lock
- Central locking
- Pretension and load limiter seat belt for driver and passenger
What’s The Verdict?
Since the global launch, the Nissan Magnite has received numerous accolades including ‘Top Gear India compact SUV of the year’ and the Autocar India ‘Value for Money Car of the Year award’. You can see how excited Nissan is about launching the compact SUV as shown by Stefan Haasbroek, Nissan South Africa Marketing Director, who said: “In line with Nissan’s philosophy of continuous innovation and enriching experiences, we thought it fitting to have a launch that supports this narrative. Our market is bold, self-driven with go-for-it attitudes aligning to what the Nissan Magnite embodies.
