Navara Warrior

Nissan has officially debuted the Navara Pro-4X Warrior in South Africa, a more rugged and capable version of its popular Navara bakkie. This new model competes with the Toyota Hilux GR Sport III, Isuzu D-Max AT35 and Mitsubishi Triton Xtreme.

Developed by Nissan Australia in collaboration with the engineering firm Premcar, takes the top-spec Pro-4X and adds a series of modifications to enhance its off-road performance and overall aesthetic.

While the Navara Pro-4X Warrior is not meant to rival the extreme capabilities of models like the Ford Ranger Raptor, it certainly brings a tougher, more stylish package to the South African market.

Exterior Design

The Pro-4X Warrior stands out with its muscular design elements. It boasts 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Maxxis Razr all-terrain tires for superior traction. The black grille features a bold red Nissan badge, adding a touch of aggression to its front end. Black side-steps with red accents, roof rails, and a black sports bar contribute to its rugged look.

To make the vehicle more capable off-road, the Warrior is fitted with bolt-on wheel arch cladding and a red-accented front skid plate, enhancing its approach angle. Additionally, Pro-4X Warrior decals adorn the side of the loadbin, marking it as a special edition of the Navara.

Suspension Upgrades

The Pro-4X Warrior benefits from significant suspension upgrades that improve its off-road ability. The most noticeable is a wider front and rear track, which enhances stability on rough terrain. A revised coil spring rear suspension forms part of a lift-kit, increasing the vehicle’s ground clearance from 221mm to 232mm. These enhancements contribute to a smoother, more stable ride when tackling challenging off-road conditions.

On The Inside

Inside, the Pro-4X Warrior retains many of the premium features of the standard Pro-4X. However, the Warrior adds a bit of flair with red stitching and Warrior embroidery on the front seat backs, giving the cabin a sporty feel. The rest of the interior remains similar to the Pro-4X, with features like an 8-inch infotainment system that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for seamless connectivity.

Other comfort and convenience features include dual-zone climate control, push-button start, and a seven-inch digital instrument cluster. For added safety, the Warrior is equipped with an array of driver-assistance technologies such as Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Departure Warning, and a 360-degree camera system.

Engine And Performance

Under the hood, the Pro-4X Warrior keeps the YD25DDTI 2.5-litre turbo diesel engine found in the regular Pro-4X. This engine produces 140kW and 450Nm of torque, providing ample power for both on-road and off-road driving.

The engine is mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox and a part-time four-wheel-drive system.

The vehicle also features a rear diff-lock, which provides enhanced traction on slippery or uneven surfaces, further boosting the Warrior’s off-road capabilities.

The Pro-4X Warrior is set to be a strong competitor in the local market, particularly for those looking for a bakkie that can handle work and adventure easily.
