How Nissan Ambition 2030 Can Help Increase Accessibility And Innovation

For some time now, Nissan has been at the forefront of innovation and now, they want to support greater access to safe and exciting mobility. To make this happen, Nissan is aiming at doing the following:

  • Continue to evolve its lithium-ion battery technologies and introduce cobalt-free technology which will help reduce the cost by 65% by the fiscal year 2028
  • Launch electric vehicles with its proprietary all-solid-state batteries (ASSB) by the fiscal year 2028
  • Construct a pilot plant in Yokohama as early as the fiscal year 2024
  • Expand ProPILOT technology to over 2.5 million Nissan and INFINITI vehicles by the fiscal year 2026
  • Develop its autonomous vehicle technologies by aiming to incorporate next-generation LIDAR systems on nearly every new model by the fiscal year 2030

To meet the transportation needs of different countries, Nissan will collaborate with the most suitable partners. Together, they will create new mobility services for more efficient mobility in cities and more sustainable options in more rural areas.

Nissan Want To Supply Batteries Globally

With the introduction of breakthrough solid-state battery technology, Nissan could expand its range of electric vehicles across more segments while offering a more dynamic performance. By reducing charging time to one-third, its proprietary all-solid-state batteries will make EVs even more efficient and accessible.

Nissan wants to establish a global battery supply system to meet the growing number of EVs in use and customer demand. Together with its partners, Nissan has plans to increase its global battery production capacity to 52 GWh by the fiscal year 2026, and 130 GWh by the fiscal year 2030.

Through Nissan Ambition 2030, they also want to extend the benefits of mobility by making its advanced driver-assistance and intelligence technologies available to more customers. These combined efforts will go a long way to support Nissan’s continued efforts in establishing new mobility services and partnerships across the world.

A Global Ecosystem To Support A Circular Economy

In addition to upgrading vehicle technologies, Nissan is localising the manufacturing and sourcing process to make EVs more competitive. They on expanding its unique EV Hub concept, EV36Zero, which was launched in the UK to core markets such as Japan, China and the U.S.

Sustainability will also continue to be a priority for Nissan based on its decade of repurposing and recycling expertise with 4R Energy. They intend on expanding its battery refurbishing facilities beyond Japan with new locations in Europe during 2022, and in the U.S. in 2025.

The refurbishing infrastructure Nissan has worked on so diligently will help support a circular economy in energy management. They want to fully commercialise its vehicle-to-everything (V2X) and home battery systems within the next few years. Further to that, Nissan is investing up to 20 billion yen (approximately R2.7 billion) by 2026 towards charging infrastructure.

To increase the pace of innovation in mobility, Nissan is looking to hire more than 3,000 employees in advanced research and development while continuing to upskill its current workforce. Nissan will also build on collaboration across the Nissan-Mitsubishi-Renault Alliance to enable cost-savings and shared expertise. This includes areas such as carbon-neutral technologies, electrification, software and services.
