ICE, hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and electric vehicles (EVs) – we want it all and Nissan heard us. In a new global strategy dubbed The Arc, Nissan aims to refresh existing models, introduce new energy vehicles (NEVs), and achieve electrification goals across different regions.
Amongst the global plans, the automaker intends to launch 30 new models by 2026, 16 of which will be electrified. This ambitious initiative represents a pivotal moment for the automotive giant as it focuses on enhancing value and bolstering competitiveness by intensifying efforts in electrification, adopting innovative engineering and manufacturing techniques and forging strategic partnerships to improve global sales.
Nissan says its plan offers a definitive roadmap to the company’s future. “It illustrates our continuous progression and ability to navigate changing market conditions. Faced with extreme market volatility, Nissan is taking decisive actions guided by the new plan to ensure sustainable growth and profitability,” said Nissan President and CEO Makoto Uchida.
A Bridge To Nissan Ambition 2030
The “Arc” is strategically positioned as a bridge between Nissan’s previous business transformation plan, Nissan NEXT, and its long-term vision, Nissan Ambition 2030. Serving as a transitional framework, this plan integrates short-term imperatives for fiscal years 2024 through 2026 with mid-long-term actions extending to 2030.
The initiative will see Nissan update its model line-up across all market segments, with a plan to introduce an estimated 34 electrified models by 2030. It expects electrified models to constitute 40% of its global vehicle sales by FY 2026 and increase to 60% by the decade’s end. Compared with 2023, the automaker aims to achieve an additional one million units in sales and slash electric vehicle (EV) production costs by 30% by the end of 2026.
Meanwhile, for a balanced product portfolio, Nissan is expanding its tried-and-true internal combustion engine vehicles. The company plans to refresh 60% of these vehicles by fiscal year 2026, including the introduction of 14 new models. As part of the “Arc” product rollout, Nissan will unveil two new SUVs plus a broader range of A-segment vehicles powered by combustion engines in Africa.
Next Nissan Patrol And Navara Teased
The big takeout was the confirmation of the upcoming launch of the next-generation Nissan Patrol within the next 12 months. Additionally, it was revealed that the next Navara will be based on the Mitsubishi Triton platform and will offer an “EV or PHEV” option.
While the Japanese automaker had previously fallen behind other major automakers in the electric vehicle (EV) transition, the innovative strategies outlined in “The Arc” promise to position Nissan as a formidable contender once again. With a renewed focus on electrification and a comprehensive plan for growth and innovation, Nissan is poised to not only catch up but also lead the way in shaping the future of mobility on a global scale.
