Nissan Brand Ambassadors: Rabada & Pollock

Nissan is proud to announce that the current number one test bowler Kagiso Rabada has been named as brand ambassador for Nissan for the third year running alongside a sporting legend and former South African cricket captain Shaun Pollock. This move has cemented Nissan’s association as a sponsor with the ICC (International Cricket Council).

Rabada and Pollock are joining a league of global superstars who form part of the Nissan brand ambassador programme, including tennis heavyweight Naomi Osaka, who has taken titles at the Australian Open, as well as the US Open.

The 23-year-old Rabada had a phenomenal year in 2018, and currently holds top honours on the ICC rankings, as well as a solid fourth place in the ODI rankings. He stated that he was very happy to be collaborating with Nissan for the third year running and that he particularly enjoys seeing how technology remains front in centre in our R&D strategy. Affectionately known as KG among his fans, Rabada has enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame since his debut season in 2015 and is definitely one of the most exciting talents to emerge in recent years.

Pollock, on the other hand, stands as an icon in the field. The cricketer may have retired in 2008, but he has since positioned himself as a highly-regarded commentator both locally and abroad, delighting crowds and spectators with his singular, highly informative narrative style.

According to popular sporting lore, the earliest version of cricket originated in England, where the grass was kept short by grazing sheep and it was possible to play a game with a lump of compressed wool as a ball. The first game ever recorded took place in 1646 and the sport quickly proved so popular that errand churchgoers would be fined if they played hooky to watch a match. The longest cricket match up to date took place between England and South Africa in 1939 – it ran for a full 14 days and ended in a very disappointing tie.
