South Africa’s most prestigious motor industry title, the WesBank/SAGMJ Car Of The Year (COTY) award, is back up for grabs, and Group 1 Nissan is proud to announce that the Qashqai 1.6 dCi is one of the 2015 finalists.
This year’s hopefuls were revealed to the public at a glitzy event in Johannesburg’s Inanda Polo Club. While every car chosen exhibits stellar qualities, we strongly believe that the Qashqai has the design excellence, performance proof and safety features needed to outshine the competition.
How the COTY Winner is decided
Unlike similar awards, these COTY vehicles weren’t chosen via a popularity vote. Each contestant is strictly tested by 29 members of the South African Guild of Motoring Journalists (SAGMJ) to ensure they meet a range of criteria. Only cars deemed worthy representatives of “outstanding automotive engineering” make the shortlist.
Eleven superb models made the final round this year, including the Lexus ES 250 EX and Porsche Macan S Diesel. The overall winner will now be determined by an independent panel of vehicle experts, who award each car a number of points. The one with the highest total takes the title.
Nissan’s Outstanding Offering
The beauty of the 2014 Qashqai is evident as soon as you lay your eyes on it, but it’s what’s under the bonnet that seals the deal. For instance:
- Performance – You get all the power (110 81kW @ 4000) and torque (260Nm @ 4000) you desire, without losing your driving finesse. Maintaining undeniable control is possible thanks to the Qashqai’s responsive Xtronic CVT transmission.
- Technology – The model features next generation technology like ergonomic self-warming seats, the NissanConnect system, an advanced Drive-Assist display and Around View Monitor.
- Safety – Passenger protecting gadgets are seamlessly incorporated into the Qashqai’s design. With six airbags, rain sensing wipers, Hill Start Assist and a Traction Control system, it’s no surprise the car boasts a five-star Euro NCAP Safety rating.
An Award-winning Automobile
This isn’t the first time Nissan and the Qashqai 1.6 dCi have qualified for an impressive accolade. Earlier this year, it won both the Tow Car Award as Overall Winner and the What Car? Car of the Year Award. As you can see, it’s clear that this world-class crossover has what it takes to knock out the competition. We eagerly await the WesBank/SAGMJ results to be announced on 18 March 2015.
