The Nissan LEAF wins Japanese Car of the Year

The Nissan LEAF has taken the top prize in the Japanese Car of the Year at the Tokyo Motor Show

The acclaimed Nissan LEAF already carries the European and World Car of the Year 2011 titles and has also been named Japan’s Car of the Year. The announcement came on the first day of the nation’s prestigious Tokyo Motor Show.

According to Chief Operating Officer Toshiyuki Shiga the award reflects the hard work of the staff and recognizes the importance of increasing global awareness regarding zero emission potential. “I think this is a big challenge for Nissan, to make a zero-emission, mobile society,” he said.

Along with its accolades it’s also sold over 20,000 units since sales began at the end of 2010, making it the most successful EV of all time.
