During the 1970’s there was one vehicle manufacturing brand name that was on every rally fans lips, and that was Datsun! In fact, the popularity of rally driving in countries such as Australia and South Africa can be traced back to the iconic Datsun 1600, as it proved to be much more than just a compact five-seater family car when it was launched. Enterprising off-road racing fans of that era immediately saw the sporting potential of the car and put the robust overhead cam 1600cc engine that pushed out a massive 96 horsepower to good use. The reliability and robust build of this car was so good, that even to this day there are still Datsun 1600 Rally cars and even track racers that are used in club events.
