Just weeks after Nissan promised Autonomous Drive technology by 2020 Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn is taken for a spin in a self driving Nissan LEAF. Coming along for the ride was Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda and a number of top international motoring journalists. You can watch the video below and see how the driverless Nissan Leaf is able to navigate its passengers around a complex road course inside a huge hangar.
So How Does Nissan’s Autonomous Drive Work?
The Nissan LEAF Autonomous Drive prototype vehicle uses five separate cameras and five laser sensors to help it navigate. This enables the car to “sense” both painted lines on the road and other vehicles. The complex computer software is also so advanced that it can interpret what is happening around the vehicle and enables it to perform such tasks as yielding to other cars and moving around stalled vehicles by itself.
