New Nissan Magnite AMT On The Cards

Nissan Magnite AMT Launching Soon!

Nissan Magnite AMT Launching Soon!

Known as one of South Africa’s most affordable and stylish compact SUVs, the Nissan Magnite has proven very popular in the local market. All Nissan Magnite models feature advanced technologies, excellent safety and comfort, as well as great performance specs, all unheard of at its price point. What has made this car even more attractive to buyers is the recent introduction of the new base engine entry-grade Nissan Magnite.

Now in even more exciting news, Nissan is likely to introduce a new Magnite with an automated manual transmission (AMT), same as its mechanical twin, the Renault Kiger. Reports suggest that the new gearbox will be paired with the 1.0-litre naturally aspirated engine.

Previous versions of the Magnite range are powered by a turbocharged 1.0-litre petrol engine, with a 5-speed manual gearbox and continuously variable transmission (CVT). The newer budget models, each have a naturally aspirated engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The new 5-speed AMT will bridge the gap between the manual and CVT variants.

Different Tranmissions Explained

Let’s explore the difference between these various transmissions.

Manual Transmission

Generally more fuel efficient than automatic transmissions, manual transmissions require the driver to shift gears manually, using a clutch pedal. They can however be more difficult to drive and for that reason, an automatic might be preferred.

Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)

A CVT is a type of transmission that uses a belt or pulley system to vary the gear ratio. This means that there are no fixed gears, and the transmission can continuously adjust the gear ratio to match the engine’s speed and load. CVTs are generally very smooth to drive and can offer excellent fuel economy.

Automated Manual Transmission (AMT)

An AMT uses an actuator to shift gears automatically and is typically less expensive than other types of automatic transmissions, however, they can be less smooth to drive and may not offer as good fuel economy as CVTs.

Nissan Magnite AMT Launch Details

While exact details of the launch are yet to be confirmed we do know that we should see the AMT as soon as October 2023!

The Nissan Magnite currently comes in four variants and it has been suggested that the higher variants could get the AMT option.
